A veneer is essentially a custom-made, ultra-thin porcelain shell that is bonded to your tooth. It is colored and contoured to blend seamlessly with your other teeth and will not interfere with your ability to eat all of the foods you love. Teeth often require only minimal changes to enable the best possible veneers to be placed.
Porcelain veneers can be used to correct several problems, including:
- Chipped teeth
- Cracked teeth
- Irregularly shaped or spaced teeth
- Stained teeth that don't respond to tooth whitening solutions
- Worn teeth
Most patients with these concerns are excellent candidates for porcelain veneers. There are some limitations, and alternative solutions may be more appropriate. Many times veneers are the best way to correct problems and create the beautiful smile you want.
Veneers are also exceptionally strong and long-lasting, as they're made from durable porcelain and firmly bonded to your teeth. You'll need to practice sound dental hygiene and brush at least twice a day to maintain your veneers and surrounding gum tissue - they need no special treatment.
Dr. Phelps will be happy to discuss porcelain veneers with you and help you determine if they're right for your specific needs.
