What are the Symptoms of TMJ?

One of the reasons TMJ is often undiagnosed in Indianapolis and throughout the country is that its symptoms are easily attributed to other, less serious conditions. As such, many people don’t consider seeking diagnosis and treatment, which means they’re left in needless pain and discomfort.

You should avoid this, and you can avoid this. We urge you to arrange a consultation with Dr. Phelps as soon as possible if you’re experiencing:

  1. Chronic headaches
  2. Upper back pain
  3. Shoulder pain
  4. Facial pain
  5. Clicking jaw
  6. Ringing ears

Obviously, any individual symptom from this list isn’t necessarily a sign of TMJ. We all get headaches, after all. But you’re dealing with multiple items on that list and you’re dealing with them repeatedly, you might be suffering from TMJ.

Of course, there’s only one way to know for sure. You should get a firm diagnosis as soon as possible so that you can begin the process of finding a solution to your problems. Dr. Phelps can examine your jaw and bite, listen to your story and determine if you have TMJ or some other dental problem in need of treatment.

If you live in or around Indianapolis, Indiana and you’re suffering from chronic headaches, you might have TMJ. Please call Dr. John R. Phelps today at 317-793-6133 for a consultation.
